About Love n' Learn Childcare

Love n' Learn Childcare was established because we recognize that there is a need for quality childcare. We strive to go above and beyond the minimal requirements as set out in The Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. We are passionate about providing an excellent early learning environment for children that is positive, open, and safe. We have wonderful and qualified staff that will help guide the children in our play-based learning program which will help develop their skills in self-regulation, independence and problem solving. We also believe that nutrition is a key part in children’s development, which is why we will only be using quality and healthy ingredients to prepare and cook all our snacks and meals on site.

Our Mission

Here at Love n' Learn Childcare Centre, we strive to create a loving environment where children can learn, explore and work on developing their skills in all areas through the act of play. Our environments help build social skills and are created with a home-like atmosphere, where each child has the sense of belonging.

Our Philosophy

Love n' Learn believes that constructing a solid foundation in the early years of children's life has great impacts on their future learning and development. The educational philosophy of Love n’ Learn appreciates children’s natural development, so our curriculum is fully child-centred and based on children’s nature and interests.
Playing is the fundamental basis for child development, and is an effective tool for transferring educational and developmental messages to the learners. Therefore, Love n’ Learn is designed to be an extremely exciting environment for children to satisfy their curiosity and their burning desire for exploration and discovery so that children could simultaneously have fun and learn in a safe, motivating environment marked by love and attention.
Love n' Learn curriculum contextualizes freedom in an exceptional educational framework. As a result, learners have the opportunity for self-actualization according to their unique merits and qualities. While playing, learners pass through two cognitive stages that are very important in their lives: sensorimotor (birth-2); and pre-operation (2-7).
Children develop and strengthen these two cognitive skills through experiences they obtain and discoveries they make in their plays. Well-trained educators at Love n' Learn observe children during their plays and guide them to facilitate their faster mental development and growth.

Our Program Statement

We view children as being capable of complex thinking, competent, curious in nature and rich in potential. They grow up in families with diverse social, cultural, and linguistic perspectives. Love n’ Learn provides an anti-bias approach in program development that promotes equal respect and acceptance for all. Differences are good; they exist and are to be enriching. As children are exposed to diversity in all programming areas it teaches the acceptance of these differences. As a result, children grow to be more tolerant.
The aim of our programs is to make a safe and stimulating environment in which children have the opportunity to grow and learn through play-based experiences.
At Love n’ Learn, we believe in the value of free play. During play, which includes times of indoor and outdoor, active play, rest and quiet time, children use their senses to discover the thing in their environment and to form the concepts on which all future learning will be based.
The children in the program will be introduced to a variety of stimulating activities such as play-acting, book reading, music, dance and exploration activities. Some area of the exploration activities includes art, early literacy, science and math. Educators may also create plans in sensory, dramatic play, outside play, gross motor and fine motor play. All the activities are based on the children’s interest and need through child’s observations. During these self-chosen activities, children will be encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas, make choices and ask and answer questions to satisfy their curiosity, build problem-solving skills and gain a sense of self-responsibility.
Physical activity is another part of our daily program and helps children build confidence, develop and maintain strong bones, develop good sleep habits, develop motor skills and build strength, flexibility and endurance. Physical activity also prevents childhood obesity, decreases behavioural and disciplinary problems and improves social skills and brain development.
Our Educators are knowledgeable, caring, reflective and resourceful with diverse social, cultural, and linguistic perspectives. They are well trained to focus on the specific interests of children and to provide materials and activities and create a learning environment that will encourage children to follow their individual interests. Our educators are lifelong learners and will be given opportunities to participate in individual as well as group workshops. They participate in regular staff meetings and regional networking sessions. Professional development opportunities will be offered to them on an ongoing basis. We promote the daily practice of reflection and collaboration by encouraging our staff to make a commitment to ongoing contemplation, dialogue, exploration and experimentation within their classrooms.
Our rooms are designed to keep learning fun and have all or some of the following areas, depending on the program’s age: circle area, arts and crafts, science and technology, dramatic play, construction area, sensory, manipulative, math and tabletop toys. These dimensions of the learning environment ensure the growth of each child physically, cognitively, socially, emotionally, and creatively.
Love n’ Learn ensure children receive healthy meals in all our programs. Healthy eating is important to children’s growth and development. We don’t want any child to reach middle age in poor health and with chronic disease. Our job is to offer nutritious and healthy food choices at meals and snack times and children’s job is to choose how much they will eat of the foods we serve. Our qualified chef prepares our fresh food daily using only the best ingredients. Our meals are not only designed for a child’s palate but tick all nutritional requirements necessary for growing children. Our chef is also aware of common food safety issues (such as mercury, sugar substitutes or salt) and takes all the necessary steps to eliminate/lower the risk. After serving our healthy food, children will be allowed to eat as little or as much as they want at each meal or snack time. That will encourage them to continue to trust their internal hunger gauge.
Families are the first and most powerful influence on children’s learning, development, health, and well-being. At Love n’ Learn, families and educators work together as responsible role models reflecting warmth, consideration, and respectfulness. Working together, we want to create an atmosphere in which the children not only learn but also develop a love of learning. It is our main goal to provide an environment in which children feel safe, free and comfortable to follow their desire to explore, learn and flourish.
We encourage the children to learn to be responsible for their own behavior, self-regulate their emotions and communicate in a positive way. This will allow the children to communicate and express their emotions to others socially. At our Centre, we encourage children to express themselves by always getting down to the child’s level, give our undivided attention to the child that is communicating, and work with parents to develop ways to speak with children that do not have verbal communication. We model appropriate and positive language voice levels and use variation in tones which are reflected in our body language when guiding children throughout the day to encourage self-expression when children are speaking with educators and peers.
It is our aim to provide a positive atmosphere with respectful and meaningful interactions amongst all those involved in our Centre. Staff interactions will be respectful and sensitive to family culture, value, language and composition. Our educators are to work closely with families to provide cultural consistency in harmony with the home. We will achieve this through monthly newsletter and daily communication at drop off and pick up time. There might be instances where it might not be appropriate to have an in-depth conversation with parents, as our educator’s priority is the health and safety of the children. In these cases, we can set up a time, during our hours of operation, for a meeting or telephone conversation. This promotes an atmosphere that encourage openness to the perspectives of others. We strive to foster each child’s self-esteem, curiosity and exploration and practice positive child guidance strategies. We also believe that it is impossible to create a warm and secure atmosphere if the environment is punitive. We place the emphasis on understanding the individual child and the reasons for any inappropriate behaviour. It is, therefore, our responsibility to locate the source of that inappropriate behaviour, understand it and help to change it.
The most effective means of producing more appropriate behavior is through modelling, explanations, redirection and presenting alternatives. Our focus is to bring the children to a level at which they understand their own individual needs and can express emotions and direct themselves appropriately.
Love n’ Learn believes in the importance of supporting children and their families with all the available resources in the community to encourage a sense of belonging to the larger community in children and families. Therefore, community partners such as schools and school boards are an important resource to be used in our programs. Love n’ Learn works closely with the local school communities to establish a positive collaboration. Reciprocal involvement in special events, sharing of resources and ongoing communication through daily interactions, meetings and conferences can establish and maintain an effective relationship with these important community resources. We also provide community engagement through excursions to local businesses and classroom visits from community helpers. When children require extra support, we work with community partners such as Early Intervening Services and Speech and Language Services to help remove barriers preventing children from active participation in our programs.
At our Centre, the programs are re-evaluated regularly to reflect changes within the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and ideologies on Early Childhood Education. We use the principles found in “How Does Learning happen?” to provide the foundation for curriculum planning and guidance. In addition, the learning is made visible to families through the documentation created by the children and trained staff. The Standards of Practice as found in the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics guides our professionalism.
